2018 Rules and Sign-Ups

Welcome to the 2018 SGA Secret Santa challenge!

Please be patient with me, as this is my first time running a fest. I'm very lucky to have the help of squidgiepdx and respoftw!

Schedule

★ Sign-ups: Now thru Oct. 11
Assignments will be sent out by the 15th. You must reply to the email to confirm receipt.

★ Required Check-In: Nov. 29
Check-in will be done via email. If I don't hear from you, your assignment will be turned over to a pinch hitter.

★ Posting Period: Dec. 10 to Dec. 23
You are responsible for posting your gift to this community. Posting instructions will be provided when the time nears.

★ Author Reveals: December 25th


Rules

This is a secret-santa style exchange open to all pairings and genres (gen/het/slash/femslash/multi).

1. All stories must be at least 1,000 words in length. Everyone who signs up to receive a story is expected to write one in return.

2. Additionally, all stories must be a complete, stand-alone work and must be beta read.

3. Remember: Keep your identity a secret from your recipient until you post your gift! If you need to ask a question of your recipient, contact me and I'll be your go-between.

4. Be responsive to all mod communications. This includes replying to the assignment email and responding at check-in. Please provide an email you check regularly, and make sure sgasecretsanta@gmail.com is white-listed.

4. Stick to the deadlines. This is my only Christmas wish! However, if you find yourself needing to drop out or needing an extension, email me right away.

5. If you drop out after the Check-in OR if you simply disappear, you will not be allowed to participate next year. If you think you might be ineligible this year, you can contact me to double-check before signing up.

Hi! Wil there be a separate signup for pinch hitters?

I was thinking that we'd wait and see if a pinch hitter is needed, and then post asking for volunteers? Do you think we should have a sign-up post?

That works too! There are pros and cons to both ways I think so whatever way suits :)

When people sign-up, they can "opt in" to pinch hitting. At least, I've seen a couple people put in there that they weren't interested.

Is writing treats an option, rather than participating in the full exchange?

Like, treats for every author that signs up? I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to reward only some authors with treats and not others.

The minimum word count is really only 1k, and by the time you wrote a treat for everyone you'd probably hit the minimum word count. Are you sure you don't want to sign up?

I usually lean toward treats if it's an option because I don't always have great luck on matching and if I'm not able to finish by the deadline I'm not disappointing anyone. But if it makes things too complicated or it's weird to have some people get one gift and others potentially get multiple, I totally understand.
