The posting period this year is is December 10th to December 23rd, so I've set up the collection.

Here are the instructions:

1. Go to our collection page.
2. Click Post To Collection in the upper right corner.
3 Fill out your post as normal. Under associations, where it says post to collection, type in SGA_Secret_Santa_2023. Right below that, it says, gift this work to type in your recipients name.
4. Hit post. Since this collection is moderated, it should send me an email letting me know that I need to approve the fics addition to the collection. This collection is set to anonymous, so it'll keep the authors secret until reveals.
5. I reveal the authors on Christmas!

A day late, I know. I apologize! I work in retail and the holiday season is always very rough.

To check-in, you can comment on this post or email me at sgasecretsantamod@gmail.com! How are y'all feeling? It's okay if you haven't started yet, the important part is getting done on time. Do you feel like you will be on time? Need some help?

If you need to drop out, that's okay! The sooner you let me know, the better. That'll give the pinch hitter more time to come up with an idea and write it.

Let me know how you're feeling :D

I’m keeping posting open for an extra two days. Please contact me (sgasecretsantamod@gmail.com) if you think you absolutely will not have it posted by the 25th.

It's time for check-in! How's everyone doing? I hope it's all going well :)

Do you think you're going to be able to finish on time? If not, now is the time to consider dropping out, so any pinch hitter will have time to fill in.

Sign-ups are now closed. I plan to get started on matching today and hopefully have them finished in the next couple days.

Alright, guys! The scheduled posting period ends the 23rd according to the schedule I posted back at the beginning. I'm willing to stretch that to the 25th if needed - I realize this is a busy time of year, so this is a gentle reminder that we're in the final stages. If you've got a fic done, but it isn't beta'd, you can post it and then fix it up once it's done being beta'd. I'd rather have everyone get a gift than not, you know?

But the 25th is when the fics go live, because it's Christmas, so try to have them in by then at the latest.

So, one of our participants tried to post their fic early. Despite the settings for "anonymous" and "unrevealed" being turned on, their fic was posted and completely open for viewing. After consulting someone far more versed in this kind of thing (*waves to [personal profile] squidgiepdx *) , I was informed this kind of thing has happened once before and linked me to a post about how to get around this "reveal bug".

SO. To avoid fics being spoiled ahead of time, please follow these steps, as laid out by the wonderful squidgie!

If you would rather look at a tutorial on the following steps for posting your work, with pictures, please visit the tutorial at the Once Upon a Fic Exchange AO3 Reveals Bug work around.

Now, how to post your work:

1. Login to AO3.

1A. Select My Assignments from the pull-down menu at the top of the page, or the left side navigation options.

1B. Choose "fulfill assignment" and create a draft of your fanwork. Make sure you select collection sga secret santa 2021!

2. Select "Preview" at the bottom of the page.

3. After checking the Preview of your work, select "Save As Draft" at the bottom of the screen.

4. 3 messages should now appear at the top of your Saved Without Posting work.

4A. If the 3rd message is,
"This work is part of an ongoing collection and will be revealed soon!
You can find details here"

Then you can select "Post Work" in the next step, Step 5.

4B. If you do NOT see the 3rd message "This work is part of an ongoing collection," then the AO3 Reveals Bug got you! Follow the next Step, 4C.

4C. If the reveals bug got you in Step 4B, do not select "Post Work." Just save your fanwork as a draft, and email sgasecretsantamod(at)gmail.com to let us know. We will take a look at it.

5. Those who got the 3rd message ("This work is part of an ongoing...") in Step 4A, can now Post Work! Next, do the following two steps:

5A. Edit your fanwork one more time.

5B. This time, choose "Post"

You're done! Please keep in mind, though, that your work will not show up right away -- it goes into a queue for mod review before it gets accepted.

Okay, everybody! This is where you let me know if you're going to finish your fic in time or not. There's no shame or judgement if you have to drop out, but I need to know so I can put out a search for pinch hitters as soon as possible. Comments are screened, so please feel free to comment.

If your fic is already completed and ready to go, you can now post! Authors will remain anonymous until the 24th, but you can at least get your fic up so you don't have to worry about it any more. We have some lovely gifts already up :)

Last day!

[personal profile] popkin16
Today is the last day to get your fics in! If you need extra time, please contact me via sgasecretsantamod@gmail.com. I'm willing to let people work until the 25th, but I need to know ahead of time. Keep me in the loop!

If you do not contact me and don't post a fic by the end of the 23rd (pacific time), i'm assuming you're defaulting and will open up for pinch hitters. This will at least give them some time to get a fic written.
popkin16: (atlantis)
[personal profile] popkin16
Hey guys, it's that time!

You can either send an email to sgasecretsantamod@gmail.com or leave a comment on this post to check-in. Basically, let me know how much progress you've made on your fic, or if you've run into problems I can act as a sounding board.

Now is also the time to let me know if you want to drop out.

This gives any pinch hitter a little less than a month to get a fic written. Please contact me if you don't think you'll get your fic finished on time.

 Please check your email.

Email me at sgasecretsantamod@gmail.com if you have any questions!

One more?

I'm leaving sign ups open for hopefully 1 more person. We're sitting at 21 participants, an uneven number, so unless someone wants to write two gift fics, we'll need 1 more.

Sign ups are here.

Option A

[personal profile] popkin16
Since I'm running short on time and the majority of people are "good with either option", I'm going to go with Option A :) I encourage everyone who signs up to agree to a gen option, however, just in case. Sign-ups will be open very soon - I just have to get the ao3 side running before providing a sign-up link.
popkin16: (team badass)
[personal profile] popkin16
The votes between Option A and Option B are equal, with people discussing their preference fervently!

So, here's the final question: If you voted for Option A and we go with Option B, would you still participatie? What about vice versa?

@goddess47 has floated the idea that we all include a "gen" option in our list to make matching easier for people who might have rare ships and/or character preferences. This way everyone gets a gift, and nobody signs up who isn't prepared to write a fic that isn't soley for their specific ship. I want this to be as inclusive a fest as possible.
popkin16: (atlantis)
[personal profile] popkin16
How should the fest be run?

Option A: People sign up. You're assigned matches based on compatible writing & wants, and write a gift fic for that person.

Option B, suggested by[personal profile] goddess47 here: This way is more like a Reverse Bang. People post prompts instead of art, and those who sign up for the fest claim a prompt. This could also open us up to fanart. It's modeled after this fest, if you're looking for more information.

Any thoughts?
